You are right. Confidence is King. I look around at the current response from the authorities and this is what I see. The people are frightened of interacting with each other and regard each other with suspicion. Yes, there are times when communities coalesce and work to the common good. But underneath everyone is wary. I believe this attitude will harm society for a long time to come. We would be more cohesive if we embraced life, death and each other and fought the virus together with our own defences. Don’t stop trying though. Some good may come of it. I just don’t trust big Biz or big Gov to act in the interests of all.
It's a dangerous time, in great part, due to the things you mention. But, I have seen many people step up. We all want to, but the actions we should take are not clear. We're encouraged to be passive, when we should look for ways to actively help. I've seen people spin up mask manufacturing funded by the crowd. I've seen a distiller shift production to hand sanitizer. I've seen countless entrepreneurs agree to pay their employees even though work has been shut down. I've tried to do my part. I think we can come out of this better. But, it'll take effort on my part and on your part, Richard. We can set an example. "Clear eyes and open hearts" as Ben Hunt says.
Great argument and well put. The downside is that your argument turned from the philanthropic to another profit opportunity for Amazon. We already have the best defence against Covid 19. It is inbuilt in all of us. It is called our auto-immune system. 80% of the population will feel little or no effect from the virus. Those with compromised immune systems will feel the greater effects. Possibly death. Many people, such as my daughter, have their immune systems messed up by big pharma. We, as a species, will be better served by sticking with the natural order of things and getting on with life whilst we have it. Yes, there is an awful virus lurking out there. It should not be used as an excuse to shut down the majority of the world's economy and raise unemployment figures to equally frightening levels statistically. IMHO.
I agree that our immune systems, for the most part, will figure this out. What I think is addressed by ubiquitous testing is that confidence could sooner be restored. Confidence is critical to economic activity. If we want to avoid the Greater Depression, we need to ramp up ubiquitous testing. There are already signs that Jeff Bezos is stepping up to help make this a reality.

I wish to live in a world where the billionaires would step up in moments like this, even if only for the personal recognition. Specially for developing countries that don't have the ability to summon $2 trillion to help the economy, a figure that's higher than the GDP of all but 8 countries on the planet. Unfortunately, unless things change dramatically, this is what Jeff Bezos will be remembered for: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/coronavirus-amazon-jeff-bezos-relief-fund-covid-19-billionaire-net-worth-a9422236.html. Not to mention this: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/15/amazon-will-pay-0-in-federal-taxes-this-year.html
You do live in that world. Not every billionaire is a soulless fool. Those who've built businesses from scratch are different.

I should say... most who've built businesses from scratch are different.
